The brief from the client was to provide a new retail unit with residential flats above, in the village of Hampton, near Peterborough.

The local planning authority wanted a building to sit on the corner of Eagle Way and St Edmunds Walk that would provide a presence and a focal point on this prominent corner plot. Given the head height required for the commercial premises, the ground floor had to be significantly higher than a normal dwelling. The design consideration was therefore to emphasise the horizontal features whilst breaking up the façade with vertical features using different materials. The flats required personal outside space so balconies were planned on each corner. Now complete, the building sits comfortably within it`s surroundings of similar modern looking, new buildings.
